A grandmother starved herself to death over a period of five weeks due to the UK's restrictive assisted suicide laws, which gave her no other legal way to exercise her right to die. 86-year-old Jean Davies from Oxford was a right-to-die campaigner who was suffering from various chronic ailments, but was not terminally ill. She made the decision to end her own life in this way after her health deteriorated and her pain became unbearable.
